subDevision Volunteer - "Genius"
*Genius *created by local artists Kate Smith and Patrick Gauthier for the art party SubDevision. The piece examined the confusion, elation and frustration people experience when learning. For four hours I publicly taught Kate all she wanted and didn’t want to know about computers - Keyboard shortcuts, Excel, a brief history of computers…and Binary 101. The entire time a video of Kate was projected in another party location allowing people to witness the moments of glory and disappointment. After she had her fill, I became a question and answer station for event attendees who found the cheap drinks made it easier to admit the things they didn’t know.
